Often times some of the webmasters tend to think that if you have vast numbers of visitors to your web site then you can be successful but that is not necessarily the case. It isn't the amount of traffic that you should be concerned with as much as the number of sales that you make. You could end up with thousands of visitors per day and not sell a single product but on the other hand you may have a mere 600 visitors and sell something to at least 60 percent of these traffic hits.
That my friend, is not bad at all. Therefore it is best that you know ahead of time just what your objective should be - to sell more products or have people come to your site (usually it's both)? There are several key objects and goals that you can follow when setting up your web site.
First off be generous in your use of your Meta tags. Have them prominently displayed around the page. Keep in mind that you do not want to "offend" the search engine spiders so use them sparingly and don't flood your page with keywords (20-30 tops).
Ensure that you have links coming to as many of your pages on your site as you possibly can. Search engines are appreciative of sites that other sites link to. They consider this as one of the major points for front page listings.
If you use images make certain that you provide some text as an explanation for them. Those curious spiders appreciate the thoughtfulness in this respect.
A little bit of planning at the beginning of your web site design stage will more than pay off in the long run.
