Optimizing Your Website Can Be Easy and Make You More Money

With the internet growing faster every day it can sometimes be hard to get your website visible to the people using the web. With millions of websites it can be hard to get your website to standout. The main way people find websites on the internet is through search engines. People type in keywords or search phrases and the search engine will list the results in the order that it deems is most relevant to the entered phrase. Different search engines define the relevance of each site to the keywords that have been entered differently. Each search engines uses their own set of criteria to determine which sites are listed for the keyword or phrases entered. Most search engines use what is called an algorithm or equation to determine what sites come up fist. So how do you make your website come up first in the search engines? There are four factors that make your website more or less relevant to the search engines. These factors are how the information in your website is created, links that extend to and from your website, how large your website is, and how old your website is. You can control three of these factors. In this article we will be talking about how to create your website and make it more relevant to certain key phrases on the search engines. For sake of ease we will use a vacuum cleaner website as our example. We will review the basics of search engine optimization as it pertains to web page creation.

When you first create a webpage you must create a title, description and META keyword section for that page. For our vacuum cleaner site example we are going to create a page that lists vacuum cleaner reviews. In the title of the page we will call it "Vacuum Cleaner Reviews". In keeping with the subject of the page we will give a brief description about what the page is about. An example description would be "Information about vacuums and vacuum cleaner reviews". When you enter your META keywords keep these keywords relevant to the topic of your page. A good example of keywords for this page would be "vacuum cleaner reviews, vacuum cleaners". Keep your keyword sentence short and brief and do not enter keywords that do not pertain to your page. If the words in your keyword section are not listed somewhere in text on your page, do not list it in the META keyword phrase. Also it is important not overload this section with repeating words, the search engines will count repetitive keywords against you and rank you lower in the search results. Once you have completed this section of your page make sure that every thing on your web page is related to vacuum cleaners or vacuum cleaner reviews.

In the body of your page you should list your keywords or phrases at least twice preferably in text paragraphs that relate to the content of the page. Do not repetitively use your keywords over and over again in your page or your will be penalized by the search engines. This type of tactic is called "keyword stuffing" and is frowned upon in the web community. Make sure that you add lots of text about vacuums and stay on the subject of the page. In the text of your page it is also good to utilize text links to other parts of your website. A good example of this would be to link the keywords "vacuum cleaners" within a paragraph to another page on your website that has some relevance to the keywords. Do not link a text "vacuum cleaner: link to a page about cars, this will take away points with the search engines. Make sure the text on your webpage makes sense, is spelled correctly and gives your users good information.

Graphics can also enhance you webpage and keep your visitors for engaged. Make sure to use fast loading graphics by optimizing them with a graphics design program. You can earn extra points with the search engines if your page loads more quickly. Do not over stuff your page with too many graphics. Keep your page simple and make sure your graphics are relevant to the page. Be sure to use alt tags on your graphics, the search engines like this, but remember not to keyword stuff here also. A good alt tag for a vacuum picture would be the model and the manufacturer of the unit.

Information placement on your website is also very important. I also keep my relevant information on the top left portion of my page so it is listed first and the last paragraph or lower section of my page. This type of placement seems to work well with search engines such as Google and Yahoo. Always provide good researched information that your competitors don't have and include this throughout your website. I have found that the easiest way to score highest on the search engine rankings and stay there is to create the best site for the keywords I want. Take a good look at your competition and go above and beyond your competitors. If you create the best website with the best information for your key phrases, the rankings will come quickly.
