Search Engine Optimization May Not Be As Hard As You Think

If you use a website for your company you would probably love to be found the first page of a search engine's search results. It helps bring you targeted traffic to your site that can, if executed correctly, markedly increase the chances of attaining your web site's goals. Not just that but it is usually one of the least expensive kinds of advertising even if you use a professional to do it for you. As an example a Toronto search engine optimization company can charge a few hundred dollars a month for their services. In comparison you can easily spend into the thousand attempting to get similar results from regular ads. And optimizing your site can give it much a broader exposure.

But there are things you can do yourself to effectively have your web site ranking on page one if you are prepared to put in a little time and effort.

Before you even begin to optimize your site you need to think about which keywords you wish to rank for. You need to review the keyword phrases that potential clients or visitors are using in your market. Try to come up with as many as you are able to. These may then be put into on-line services like Google's keyword research tool or on sites such as Wordtracker or Wordze. Services such as these allow you to see if your chosen phrases are actually being used and how often. A large number of searches often equals a potentially large amount of traffic.

But highly searched for terms are usually more difficult to rank well for. This should in no way scare you away from them but just understand that additional time and work will be required. Try to choose a mix of competitive and non-competitive terms. Doing so will help to raise your traffic in a short period of time while giving you something to shoot for in the future.

Next you need to start to think about the content on your site. Try to use your chosen keywords into the various web pages. Although one of the reasons for using your keywords in your site is for the search engines don't forget that real people will be reading it.

The greater the number of pages you can add to your site the better. Every time you create new pages you are attracting the search engines to continually return and reindex your web site. This can increase the chances of getting you ranked for many more phrases than the ones you are strategically targeting.

Your final step is by far the most important and that is your linking strategy. One of the top factors a search engine uses in determining a site's ranking is the number of other sites that are pointing to you. That does not mean obtaining just any type of link from any site. They need to be from sites that are similar to yours.

If you a have a site that has a real estate theme then you need to come up with a real estate search engine optimization strategy. Get links from other real estate sites such as directories and industry or agent web sites. You need to be more concerned with quality, rather than quantity.

Article marketing is a very effective way of doing this. You create content in the form of articles. You then submit these articles to various article sites such as EzineArticles. Your site will receive a link pointing back to it in return for giving out free content. This is step you should be doing a minimum of once a week.

You will incrementally begin to see your site's traffic and ranking begin to increase. The greater the time period you optimize your site for the better your results will be. It may take a bit of time and work however it is well worth it.
